Year 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 10th January 2025

Friday 10th January – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the class have been introduced to a new story in English.  We know it is something to do with Vikings and a chap called Arthur.  We will find out more this week……

We learnt about Abstract nouns – things you can’t touch/hold.  We gave artefacts from the vault (we saw in a picture from the book) abstract noun phrase names, it was a  lot of fun.  E.g. The squishy blobfish of doom, the great sword of destiny or the glistening skull of jealously.

In maths, we looked at multiplication and division facts for the three and six timestables.

Questions to ask at home  -

  • What is an abstract noun?
  • Name 3 sounds you heard on the sounds walk?
  • Name 3 places with Anglo-Saxon place names?
  • What does ‘kirk’ mean?
  • Where were there a lot of Anglo-Saxon place names?
  • Why do you think that is?
  • Tell me things you learnt about every day life in Anglo-Saxon times?

*****CHALLENGE – IF YOUR CHILD CAN BRING ME A SHEET OF THESE ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS ABOVE BY WEDNESDAY THEY WILL RECEIVE 20 HOUSEPOINTS! *******

Children’s highlights of the week

  • TTRockstars

Looking forward:

This week,  the children have some awesome learning opportunities.  They will be exploring sound and vibration in science.  In history, they class will be learning about the king Alfred the Great.  In music, the children will be exploring ‘beatboxing’ with ‘Mrs B in da House!’  In computing, the children will be channelling their inner Ardmann and creating their own stop-frame animations.
