Year 4 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 12th November
Friday 12th November – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back: This week, the children have performed some wonderful poetry for Remembrance day. As well as learning all about Louis Braille as part of our work on writing an adversity narrative. We also learnt about a truly inspirational person called Harry Billinge, who captured our hearts.
In maths, we have completed work on negative numbers as well as looking at addition and subtraction with no exchange. In the afternoons, the class has begun preparations for the carol service by learning some of the songs.
This week, the children have battled hard in the TTRockstars competition – England Rocks!
Building On
- Maths work from Year 3 – addition and subtraction with no exchanges
- Their vocabulary work, learning the meaning of new words, such as memorial and bugle.
- On their knowledge of Europe by looking at climate graphs.
Questions to ask at home
- What can you tell me about negative numbers?
- What songs did you learn this week?
- What does memorial mean?
- Who is Harry Billinge MBE?
- How old is he?
- What has he achieved?
- What is a bugle?
- How do you play one?
- What is the ‘Last Post’?
Looking forward:
This week, we will be planning and writing our own adversity narrative, using some of the inspiring people in our texts. In maths, we will continue to work with addition and subtraction. However, this time we will have exchanges. In the afternoons, the class will continue their work on Europe and learning about the Christmas story in R.E. As well as, tinkering with Logo in computing.
