Friday 17th March– Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back:
This week, the children immersed themselves into; the new Viking story book, created wonderful double-page-spreads about Delamere, went shopping for gifts, had a hockey session on the junior playground, look at length and measures in maths.
Questions to ask at home -
- What did you include in your double-page-spread?
- What skills did you practice in hockey?
- What does the word onomatopoeia mean?
- What is a simile?
- What is a metaphor?
- What is a hyperbole?
Housepoint Challenge!
If anyone can bring to school 5 examples of hyperboles and have them written down you will receive 5 housepoints!
Challenge – If you can write the answers to these questions and hand them into your teachers by the end of the day Tuesday – you will receive 5 housepoints!

Looking forward:
This week, the children will be planning their own Viking myth stories and continuing their work on length and perimeter in maths.
In the afternoons, the children will be looking at; the highs and lows of the Viking era, food chains in science, food preferences in French, the parable of the sower in R.E. and Coding with the pupils from HCCS Sixth Form.
Homework in Year 4
Maths – yellow sheet
English – abstract nouns – following on the work we completed in English last week
Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes
Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins
Spellings – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday. It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night. The children remember them better learnt over the week.
Could the children please complete their homework in pencil or blue/black pen not felt tip.
Timestables – for Thursday - the children will be getting new timestables this week - (these were given out on Friday with how many columns the children need to learn.)
(This can be handed it at anytime before Friday, the children know where the basket is)
Letters and Reminders
- Parents’ evenings this week
- PE is on a Friday afternoon this term. The children need to wear their P.E. kits on Friday and their normal red jumpers. They do not need to wear sports jumpers or hoodies. The school jumper is warm and flexible enough.
- Next term the PE will continue to be on a Friday afternoon
