Year 4 we 9.11.18
Hi All,
Next week in English, we will be continuing our work on non-chronological reports on wolves. The children learn a lot of facts about these fascinating creatures. Ask your child what they can tell you about the Gray Wolf? See if they can remember what Eurasia means? This week we will continue to write our reports about wolves, then later in the week start a report about Mt Everest. (the project homework will be really useful this week) We started to look at adverbials and fronted adverbials in grammar last week. The children understandably found these tricky. But this will be something that we will continue to build up our knowledge on.
In maths, the children will be starting to look at place value with regards to decimals – tenths in particular. Ask your child – if you divide a 1 digit number by 10 what happens? (we will be looking at that later in the week)
In the afternoons we will be continuing our topic work on mountains. Looking for the highest peaks, in each of the continents; looking at how mountains are formed, and what conditions are like at high altitude. It would be great if you could ask your child...
What are the 7 continents?
Can they give you them in order from largest to smallest?
Also can they name a mountain range in each of the continents?
From the mountain ranges – can they name the highest peaks?
Can they locate them on a map?
(This is what we have been doing in class and it would really help to cement the children’s learning.)
Fun things to look at that we have been using this week.
