Year 5 15.2.19 Looking Back and Forth

Friday 15th February 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5

Looking back:

We’ve had a fantastic last week of the half-term. The children worked really hard at imitating Monet’s style of artwork and produced some lovely exhibition for the Art Exhibition next month. We had an enjoyable Maths and Computing afternoon across the whole school on Monday. It was lovely to see the Year 5s working well with younger children – good preparation for Buddies next year!

Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • We enjoyed writing up and presenting our ‘Journey of a River’ work.
  • We liked the time problem solving in maths.
  • We enjoyed painting in the style of Monet.
  • We liked the science investigation on water resistance.

Family discussion questions:

Ask your children…

  • to tell you how they have been learning to problem solve with time and read time-tables.
  • what they have learned about water and air resistance.
  • about their piece of Monet artwork.

Looking forward:

After half-term, the children will be starting some exciting writing based on an amazing picture book which I can guarantee they will be engaged and absorbed by! In maths, we will be looking at Roman Numerals before moving on to multiplication strategies. Our ‘forces’ topic in science will end with a look at how gears, levers and pulleys work.

The children have been asked to prepare a presentation about their favourite book in preparation for World Book Day. This is due to be completed by Monday 4th March.
