Year 5 22nd March - Looking Back and Forth
Friday 22nd March 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 5
Looking back:
Another week has flown by. The children have written some really well-structured letters of complaint in our English lessons. On Thursday we set up a rusting investigation in science, exploring what conditions will make a nail go rusty. We will look at the (rusty) results in a couple of weeks.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- We enjoyed the start of the persuasive writing topic.
- We have liked learning about world rivers.
- We enjoyed the science investigation exploring dissolving.
Family discussion questions:
Ask your children…
- What they learned about rounding decimals to one and two places.
- To show you on a map where some of the world’s most famous rivers are.
- To tell you why metal objects can go rusty.
Looking forward:
On Monday, the children will have an internet safety talk from the local PSCO. This will support the e-safety lessons we undertake in class. In literacy, we will continue our persuasive writing topic by practising writing a letter of protest. In maths, we will be taking a look at ratio and proportion.
Please could the children ensure they have PE kits in school. PE this half-term is on Tuesday afternoons, but it is always useful to have PE kits available in school at all times.
Homework in Year 5:
Maths: Given Monday/Return following Monday.
English: Given Monday/Return following Monday.
Spellings: Given Friday/Tested following Friday.
Wider Opportunities:
Children to practise ‘Ode to Joy’ for Weds 22nd March.
Remember to bring all music and instrument guides etc every week.
Spare copies of music are available in the classroom.
