Year 5 Weekly Update 30.9.22
Friday 30th September 2022 – Y5 Weekly Update
Looking back:
Year 5 have worked so hard this week! The children have produced a wonderful piece of writing where they concentrated on ‘show not tell’ with a character’s emotions. In maths, we have worked on rounding, negative numbers and Roman numerals. The children have produced some beautifully presented work in their geography books, creating a wonderful information booklet about wildlife in estuaries.
Year 5 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- It was interesting to learn about Copernicus and Galileo in science.
- We loved creating a river estuary booklet.
- We liked doing Roman numerals in maths.
Family discussion questions:
- Ask the children if they can remember how to create Roman numbers up to 1000.
- Ask the children if they can remember any facts about the estuary wildlife they researched.
- Can the children remember any information about Naamkaran – the Hindu naming ceremony?
Looking forward:
We are really starting to ramp up the work in preparation for the exhibition next week. We are focusing on inspirational quotes, and a number of other activities based around ‘Inspire’. On Tuesday, the children will be spending part of the morning with Mrs Goldsmith, doing some artwork on the themed backboards which are always at the back of the hall each exhibition.
In maths, we move on to a new topic, exploring strategies for addition and subtraction.
