Year 6 - Friday 14th June - Looking Back and Forth

Y6 - Friday  14th June 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

We have been busy focusing on many different areas of the curriculum this week including history, writing, PE, science, health & wellbeing and current affairs.  We have enjoyed writing stories based upon a short animation entitled “El Caminante”; we welcomed Mrs. Bagshaw from HCCS to talk to the class about transition;  the Battle of Hastings was investigated with Mrs. Cooper in addition to a science assessment; the Premier Sports coaches have practised both gymnastics and dodgeball games; and we have enjoyed spending time with our Buddies.  In addition, we chatted with Mrs. Cowell to give information to the parents of the new 2019 Reception class about how we care for our buddies.  Finally, we rounded off another week with a busy – and thankfully dry – June Evening.

Letters issued Y6:

No specific letters this week but a Kingswood Information pack was handed to pupils on Friday if their families were unable to make the meeting on Thursday.

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Watching the El Caminante animation
  • Seeing my buddy happy
  • Showing my skills at gymnastics
  • Learning about the Battle of Hastings – I know quite a few facts now
  • Spending the day at Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School

Family discussion questions:

  • Talk to me about the Battle of Hastings – when was this and who was involved?
  • Who is “El Caminante”
  • What gymnastics moves have you worked on and improved with Premier Sports?

Looking forward:

  1. An exciting week coming up with some events that don’t usually happen.  We are continuing with lessons in English with some maths along the way too.  Thursday sees the pupils transferring to HCCS enjoying their pastoral day and meeting their new tutors and groups.  Rehearsals will begin this week for “The X Factory” and we shall continue with Premier Sports and historical enquiry with Mrs. Cooper and – of course – Friday will see us depart for our weekend residential to Kingswood in North Wales.
