Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 27th November 2020
Y6 - Friday 27th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6
Looking back:
New beginnings this week with our latest class book – Shackleton’s Journey by William Grill – revealed after a series of picture clues on Monday morning. We’ve been learning new vocabulary; spending time making great friends with dictionaries and thesauruses; and enjoying the illustrations from a wonderful text. This will take us through the next few weeks as we head towards Christmas – will Shackleton arrive at his destination?
Fractions were our focus in maths and even through Friday’s power cut, we battled on with solving these mathematical puzzles. We’ve also been busy studying rivers with Mrs. Cooper, along with beginning to make night-lights in science; the new computers were again put to great use so we could record our instructions and designs; and Mrs. Sant has got us singing (in tune) for our CD recording next week. Fingers crossed we can hit those notes when the recording takes place next week. J
Friday afternoon though was the highlight as our colourful cushions arrived and we found ourselves sitting that little bit taller. Thank you to our parents and to Miss Atkins for allowing us to have these cosy cushions to keep us dry at lunch and comfy in class. Have a look at our gallery for lots of photos from this week – cushions at the end!
We have again awarded lots of house points for the diaries being in class and the reading challenges have continued. Whilst some have kept this going, it would be amazing to see this rolled out across as many Y6 pupils as we can. Your support with this is just amazing. Staff attended training on Thursday discussed how reading is the most important schema for the entire curriculum. One of the pupils this week said that they just like the “escapism” of reading. What better reason for picking up a great book?
