Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 27th September 2019

Y6 - Friday 27th September 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Please see the "Display Work Items" tab for photos from this week. Thank you.

Looking back:

It’s great to be able to reflect on the weeks at Goostrey and to see just how many different activities the pupils are able to experience. There are – quite literally – no two weeks that are ever the same.  This week, Year 6 have been: completing work centred around Guglielmo Marconi; introduced to Rock Stars Times Tables; working on texts about the Wright Brothers; practising their dance skills; enjoying our new games club; visiting MOSI and……..hmmmmm! what was that last thing they enjoyed????

Of course, it was a reading session with the new Reception pupils.  We enjoyed a session on Friday where the Year 6 read some lovely picture books with our youngest pupils, following which, the names of the buddies were given out.  We shall be having our “formal” meet and greet with buddies soon, where our Year 6 pupils will be able to share their wonderful “Buddy Books”.  We are super impressed with the differing styles of books that have been made, and the time and care that has been taken is lovely to see.  Thank you families, for helping our pupils to make these very personal – and meaningful – books.

In addition, the pupils have been introduced to our new times tables programme called “Rock Stars”.  They have been issued with log-in details and simply asked to see if these work.  A parental letter is available and this will be sent home this week – I (Mrs. Timmins) just ran out of time on Friday to print these.  The pupils will be able to choose their own Rock Star name and they can practise any games they choose to.  I have found that the website might not work on an iPad, but there is a free app for the site.  Te he website was fine on a laptop too.  Please do let me know if your child has any problems when logging in and I will be happy to check these for you.

MOSI was a great visit.  Our pupils had opportunities to look at exhibits to support the work with Mrs. Timmins, Mrs. Cooper and Mrs. Benson and we shall be referring to the visit and photos taken from the day, over the coming weeks.  May we say “Thank You” to Mrs. Ball, Mrs. Goodwin and Mrs. Boardman who were able to accompany the class during the day.  We really cannot run some of our visits without the support of families.

So, another busy week over.  A few extra-ordinary treats next week, too.
