Looking back:
It was lovely to welcome our class back after the half-term break. They have been raring to go and have completed some great work. We have chatted about the upcoming tests in May and how we are beginning to focus “just a little bit more” than we have done in previous weeks. Thank you to those families who were able to attend the meeting to explain SATs on Monday. For those who couldn’t make it, a handout was issued to your child on Tuesday, whilst the presentation is also on the Year 6 website for you to download.
In class, we have been finding out about Silk – maybe ask your child who this might be, and what she gets up to! We have been writing narrative extracts with dialogue; our knowledge of calculating time intervals has been strengthened; they have begun to look at hill forts during the Iron Age, whilst light is a topic for study in science. Thursday saw the pupils studying all about pilgrimages; D&T got them thinking about why people might wear a hat.
PCSO Visit – Social Media
We have invited our local Community Support Officer – PCSO Chesters – into school on Monday to talk to the class about the use (and misuse) of social media. This is an issue which has – over recent years – crept into school as pupils increasingly use mobile phones. In response to a number of incidents, we felt that our pupils and their families would find this visit useful. You may wish to chat with your child before the PCSO visits and encourage them to consider what might be discussed during her visit. Your child may also have questions that he/she may wish to ask – they may write them down if they wish and bring them to the lesson.
Homework
We are also mindful that more pupils than we would like are not bringing their homework into class on the due date. Often, this work is marked on the day it is handed in, and when pupils do not have their work, this causes a number of issues. We are mindful that pupils should be taking the responsibility for remembering their homework, but we would also ask that families work to remind their children and to support them in bringing their work in on time, especially as we are in the lead up to their national assessments. Thank you for your support with this.
