Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 6th March 2020
Y6 - Friday 6th March 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6
Parents’ Evenings are being held on Tuesday and Thursday – we look forward to seeing you to discuss your child’s time in Year 6
Looking back:
It’s been colourful in Year 6 this week, particularly on Thursday with the wonderful array of slippers, socks and hats. Thank you so much for supporting World Book Day with the slippers: our pupils enjoyed an extended period of reading time – with some braving the cool morning air to read outside in the playground. The hats also looked just fabulous and the children looked carefully at these during the afternoon. (We have lots of great photos which we’ll upload next week – there was an issue with the website which wouldn’t allow us to do so this week L).
Our pupils have produced some wonderful narrative stories, including dialogue between their characters, based upon Vita and Silk. They have practised and consolidated how to read and interpret pie charts, as well as studying the “mean” as an average. They enjoyed three different types of PE this week, with relay races, badminton and Hi-5 netball all featuring with Mrs. Cooper, in addition to light and shadows in Science and The Iron Age in History.
Most possibly, the most important lesson of the week was from PCSO Liz Chesters, who visited Year 6 on Monday to discuss online safety – including the use (and misuse) of social media. She talked about different types of apps and why they each have age ratings (above Y6). She then shared a Facebook post – via the Dane Valley Police page – which reached Vietnam, Australia, North Caroline, Africa, New Zealand and…………………….Wigan! We are hoping that this will have instigated some chatting with you at home about the responsibility that comes from posting online – something we cover in our ICT safety within school. Thank you for supporting us with this.

Mrs. Timmins has set an “optional” additional homework where each daily response will receive a “mystery” number of house points.

So far, we’ve had:
Keep it under your hat: To keep something a secret
