Year 6 - Week in Review - Friday 17th February 2017
Believe it or not, Year 6, you are now half way through your last year at Goostrey. Don't you and your families think that the last half term has really flown by so fast?
This week has been "quirky" to say the least. How often, in your six and a half years with us, have you wandered over to our school field to see an eight-foot tyrannosaurus rex wandering about? Unusual to say the least. Prior to that, you all dabbled at being paleontologists, digging for bones amongst the sandy earth, and then we followed this with some super learning about the triassic, jurassic and cretaceous periods. It is tricky to think about life hundreds of millions of years ago, but you learned these facts brilliantly. The dinosaur theme saw you all "deliver" letters from "The Man" to your reception buddies. What a fabulous way to end a busy week.
Not only have we been back in time, but you've also practised your languages with our annual "French Day" on Tuesday afternoon. I particularly smiled at one of you who'd "grown" a super curly moustache, just for the day!
Mrs. Cowell has begun to work with you on our "Titanic" topic - there are some fascinating facts to learn and discuss as you go through this theme. Mrs. Benson has also seen you continue with your study of hats through the ages. There has even been some song composition with Mr. Hext on Thursday. How often do you get to collaborate with a professional muscian from the renowned Halle Orchestra?
So, to sum up this week:
- a visit from Millie the T-Rex
- becoming a paleontologist
- experiencing a carousel of French-themed activities
- learning about the birth and death of the dinosaurs - millions of years apart
- understanding the circulatory system of the human body
- beginning to learn about The Titanic
- composed a song with a professional musician (and one of our dads)
- enjoying time with your buddies
- sport with Mrs. Cowell
- continued with your hat studies
- multiplying in maths
- and anything else we were able to literally "squeeze" in.
Year 6, after this week, let alone the half term, you have really earned a good rest.
We look forward to seeing you back, bright and ready for more learning on 27th February.
Have a safe and enjoyable week with your families and friends.
The Year 6 Team.
