Year 6 - Week in Review - Friday 28th September 2018

Year 6 - Week in Review - Friday 28th September 2018

We have enjoyed quite a varied week of activities this week which has covered a lot of different types of learning and enjoyment.  English has seen the class compose some lovely letters from their own soldiers.  They are quite touching to read and we are really looking forward to sharing them with you during the Exhibition.  Maths was quite fast-paced, but our pupils have really practised their skills for column addition & subtraction and have enjoyed (?) some thought-provoking "Reasoning" questions.  I wish I'd had a camera handy to photograph some of the puzzled, deep-in-thought expressions on their faces.

We welcomed a very special visitor into school this week - hopefully, the class will have already told you, but Mrs. Cooper's mum, Jean, joined the Year 6 to talk about her experiences during World War II.  They were mesmerised and very attentive to the wonderful stories and facts that they were hearing.  This will really help them to understand the work we are completing for the Exhibition.

Mrs. Fitzhugh was pleased with the work they produced for science.  More looking for shadows in shoe boxes - and lots of enjoyment from the activity.  They have been set a couple of small  homework challenges this week - one for Mrs. Fitzhugh which is to source some card to glue their periscope net onto.  This can be downloaded from the homework page if your child has mislaid their sheet, and it should be brought back into school on Thursday.

Mrs. Timmins has also set a regular spellings homework and an optional "Peace" task for homework.  All details are on the "Homework" tab of the webpage.

Our Year 6 have been extremely patient whilst our youngest pupils have settled in and they are keen to find out who their buddies are.  To compromise, we enjoyed a special playtime with the Reception class on Friday afternoon.  They were lucky enough to play on the field and in the woods.  Next Friday is............................Meet Your Buddy Day!!!  D'you think Monday - Thursday will drag, or fly by?

Next week, we are asking pupils to make sure they are in school for 8:45am on Monday as we are heading off to the National Memorial Arboretum at 9:00am prompt.  Please cross your fingers for dry weather.

As ever, please do let us know if we can help with anything and if you have the slightest of queries, concerns, feedback or suggestions, do contact us.  We're here to work with you throughout the year.

Enjoy your weekend.
