Year 6 - Week in Review - Friday 2nd December 2016
Year 6 Week-in-Review Friday 2nd December 2016
This week has seen December roll in, and we’re wondering where November went! This week, the pupils have really enjoyed reading their own versions of Alfred Noyes’ poem “The Highwayman” which they transformed into narrative, rather than poetic style. We’ve also begun to study what makes a great quest & adventure story genre, reading about “Bellerophon and the Flying Horse”.
We’ve been really honing our division skills in maths, looking at how to record remainders in a variety of ways in maths. We’ve also begun our assessments this week and this will continue on random days until Christmas (not too many, promise).
Mrs. Cowell has guided us through some further science where we’ve been continuing to consider animals and their adaptations. Fridays see us braving the chilly weather to work with the Premier Sports coaches and on Friday afternoon, we enjoyed some extra time with our buddies as our marble jar treat.
Next week, we’ll be starting another new story for English, as well as beginning to look at problem solving & reasoning with division in maths, mixed in with some shape work.
On Friday (2nd December) the children were issued with a permission letter which needs to be signed and returned by Monday 12th December to allow us to take the children to church for rehearsals for our Carol Service. Your cooperation in returning this to us is greatly appreciated – thank you.
Questions to ask your son/daughter this week include:
What was the name of the beast Bellerophon had to slay?
How many heads did it have, and what was each head?
How can you record remainders from division calculations?
What’s a DIVIDEND and a DIVISOR?
Kind regards
The Year 6 Team
