Year 6 - Week in Review - Friday 4th October 2019

Y6 - Friday 4th October 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

There have been so many exciting events this week, it really is getting quite difficult to know where to start.  Let’s begin with the fabulous visit by Kurts Adams – British canoeist – who is aiming to be an Olympian within the next few years.  He gave an inspirational talk to the whole school, but we were then able to work with him for a session on fitness, both of the body and the mind.  He was a great example of hard work and dedication and we really enjoyed our time with him.  We have also welcomed Mr. Tompkinson into class for three days – he is a former pupil of Goostrey and is now embarking upon a career in teaching.  We enjoyed having him with us and he was great with supporting the pupils.

In our lessons with Mrs. Timmins, we have been learning about the early developments with regards to how we listen to music.  Indeed, on Friday, the class listened to some 1980s electro-pop before they left for home.  Ironically, the song was “Don’t Go” by Yazoo – but we did let them go!  Mrs. Cooper has guided us through a lesson on bacteria and the pupils have been observing and sketching mushrooms.  Mrs. Benson has been inspiring ideas for the latest D&T project, as well as learning all about the St John Fragment and the early production of the Bible.

Thursday was probably THE most exciting day – our Year 6 met their buddies and exchanged their lovely books with them.  To see all of our pupils sitting, dotted around the outdoor play area in Reception, with their brand new little friends tucked in close to them, was just lovely.  There was time for a short playtime after which, all that could be heard were excited cries of “Oh, my buddy is so cute” or “my buddy is so fast at running” or “my buddy is the best”.  We think it’s going to be a brilliant year for buddies.
