Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 10th September 2021

Y6 – Friday 10th September  2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

Welcome to our first review in Year 6 – what a super first week it has been.  The class has settled into life with us so well.  We are really impressed with how they are taking their responsibilities as the oldest class seriously.  At the end of Year 5, we asked the class to select words that they would like people to use when talking about them as our new Year 6 class.  These have been revisited this week and are now proudly displayed in our classroom.  You can see the words in our photos.

We have been busy working on ideas for our Exhibition – the continent of North America, whilst mixing in some assessments to see where our learning is currently.  They class know that our expectation is that they simply try their best – they did just that.

We know the importance of manners, politeness and respect and these form a part of our daily discussions – as the Year 6 class, we want to be setting the best example to our six younger classes and we are aiming to be exemplary in all we do – from saying a simple ‘please’ or ‘thank you’ to taking the greatest pride in all our work.

Our class page will be updated each weekend and we often include lots of photos to share with families to help you see what we are working on in class.  Click on the "Display Work Items" link and the most recent date.

On Friday, the pupils should have brought home their Homework Diaries – the same format as Year 5.  We use these for a variety of tasks in Year 6 including recording reading sessions at home.  Pupils should ask an adult to sign the bottom of the week’s page to confirm sight of the diary (and any messages).  The children should then bring the diaries into school on Thursday for checking.  They will then bring the diary home again on Friday.

A reminder that our Start of Year pack has been issued to families, and this week, our “Welcome to Year 6” PowerPoint was emailed too.  If there are any questions about life and expectations in Year 6, our drop-in will be held on Tuesday 14th September between 3:45-4:45pm.  This will be an opportunity to clarify any general queries you may have – discussions about our individual pupils will take place in November.

We are really excited to be working with you all during our 2021-2022 academic year.
