Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 17th May 2024

Y6 – Friday 17th May 2024 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

We must begin this weekly review with a massive round of applause and a big shout-out to our amazing, wonderful, resilient, super, just absolutely brilliant Year 6 class.  This week, they have been super-cool, calm and collected and they have completed all of their national assessments with aplomb!  What a week to get through.  They have been steady and focused and simply tried their best.  These are now over and we move our focus to other areas of the ever-busy, and engaging, curriculum.

Our afternoons have too, been relaxed and chilled, with activities such as playing games of our choosing in PE (football and badminton seemed to be the top choices); looking at the afterlife in different religions for RE; testing lung capacity (with very large plastic bottles) in science; enjoying time chilling with friends after SATs; chasing buddies around the field; and generally having a lovely time with friends.

We finished the week with the big reveal of our end-of-year show – no doubt by now, you’ve heard some of the cheesy lines, corny jokes and maybe a tune or two!  We can’t wait to get going on this one!

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • IC Bringing in “stuff” for SATs
  • SHA SATs
  • NH Playing football with Year 5 across the road, on the field
  • EA Being over the road, with friends
  • MG Buddies
  • RB PE
  • KC Looking at the afterlife and different beliefs about this

Family discussion questions:

  • Tell me how you tested your lung capacity.
  • Which part would you like in the school show?
  • Who is Frank Aureate? What can you tell me about him?

Looking forward:

  • We are shifting our focus to our writing assessments this week and we’ll be looking to complete some further super pieces based upon the fabulous “Impossible Creatures” written by Katherine Rundell – who has won (with this title) the Book of the Year awards for both the children’s literature, and the overall prize too!
  • Please could the children bring their scripts into school every day – we will be reading this at various points throughout the week. It’s tricky to do so if they don’t have them in front of them as we read. Thank you
  • Class photographs are to be taken on Wednesday morning – no doubt our class will be looking extra-smart! Perhaps a little hair gel might appear!
  • Auditions for the play will take place (probably) on Tuesday and Wednesday lunchtimes. Pupils will only have to audition for main parts.  All pupils will be allocated a part in our show – we ask that pupils and families have patience as we work through the allocation and aim to be fair to all.
