Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 1st April 2022
Y6 – Friday 1st April 2022 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6
Looking back:
Well, the completion of this last week means that we are now two thirds of the way through Year 6 and the time with our class is flying by – we must be having fun! It’s been another week full of different activities with lessons completed for all subjects. We’ve enjoyed publishing our narrative for Hansel and Gretel; completed maths topics for area of shapes, and we’ve learned about volume too; Benin has been our focus for history; coding for ICT; and we’ve completed a round of assessments too. The pupils have been very calm and collected throughout this. Results were shared with the class on Friday and these have been brought home for families too. They are a guide for Year 6 to see how they are progressing and will help to identify the gaps in our learning as we prepare for revision after the Easter break.
The pupils completed a lesson for e-safety this week about how to chat safely with people whilst online. We would encourage families to talk to their children about what they discussed and learned during this session, as our pupils are entering into an ever-increasing online world.
Homework is not normally issued over a holiday period, however Easter is slightly different. The CGP pages for English and maths are listed below. They are also found on our “Homework” page and the pupils have brought their books home with labels in the front cover. It is imperative that the books are brought back into class on their due date as we will be using these in lessons to support our revision process – thank you for your help with this.
We have enjoyed a varied and busy term with our class and we know how hard they have worked – now it is time for some rest and relaxation for us all with our families. Everyone in the Year 6 team wishes you all a very Happy Easter – enjoy the break and we look forward to seeing you all for the summer term.
Letters issued Y6:
No letters this week.
Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:
- SH Writing and publishing our stories
- MH Working on finding the area of parallelograms
- SH Finding the volume of cuboids
- EF Publishing our writing
Family discussion questions:
- What are the formulae for finding:
- What can you tell me about Benin?
- Tell me what you discussed and learned in your e-safety lesson about chatting to people online.
Looking forward:
- When the pupils return, we will begin our revision programme for English and maths to ensure that our pupils are as prepared as they can be for the upcoming national assessments (the SATs). We will also ensure that they continue to receive all other lessons to give them a broad and balanced curriculum, not one that is narrowed solely for maths and English. It is also the beginning of their final term at Goostrey and the process for transition to various high schools will start at some point. We will let families know what is happening with each high school when the information comes through. In addition, we would welcome dates from families should these come through direct to you. Thank you.
