Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 29th September 2003

Y6 – Friday  2029th September 23 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

A super week in Year 6 where we have really got to know our pupils in more detail.  We have enjoyed learning more about their interests outside of school as they’ve written about their achievements in English: something they have taken quite some pride in.  Maths has seen us move from Place Value to work on arithmetic concepts.  We’ve completed some artwork linked to Ernst Haeckel alongside our studies of Charles Darwin.  Habitats is an area that we are studying in more depth whilst also enjoying time in survival games.  Thursday have seen us continue our RE studies with Mrs Riddell whilst football continues to be our PE sessions.  The weather ensured a lovely playtime with buddies and the time flew by.  The little ones have already spent some fabulous time getting to know their big buddies and it’s surprising how much energy the Y6 expend, when chasing their little charges around.  On Thursday, it was lovely to see how the class enjoyed spending their day as specific butterflies and as we entered the classroom, they were able to tell us which butterfly they represented.  A huge, heartfelt thank you to everyone for the kind and generous donations – there are details of the fund in this week’s newsletter – a very special focus.  Thank you.

No specific letters issued this week

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • EA Art with Mrs Riddell – we decorated Mandalas
  • NB English and our writing about achievements
  • SHA Science – looking at adaptations (including how camels have adapted)
  • RB Art with Mrs Cowell based on Haeckel

Family discussion questions:

  • Explain the scientific terms “biomes” and “aquatic ecosystems”.
  • What is a Mandala? Which religion are these connected to and what are they for?
  • Define the terms “common factors” and “common multiples” and give examples for each term.

Looking forward:

  • We are really revving up with our Exhibition work and our pupils are tasked with chatting with family members in order to complete writing within class. Hopefully, the tasks set have engaged family members and have recalled lovely memories and created some super discussions between generations.
  • We also have some time booked in with a very special artist who will be working across all the classes next week. It’s someone you might have heard of……………….
  • Please note that the pupils’ homework for Mrs Timmins is due in on both Wednesday and Friday. Full details are in an email from Friday.  Thank you so much for supporting this.
