Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 4th March 2022

Y6 – Friday 4th March 2022 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

It’s been great to have the class back after half term – we hope everyone has enjoyed a lovely break.  This week, we’ve begun new topics in class with our key story for English being revealed throughout the week.  Perhaps your child could tell you a little of the story so far.  Algebra has been really interesting this week – we are really laying the foundation for a topic that will be a big part of the maths curriculum at high school.

History involved considering the Bronze and Iron Ages and deciding on which was the better period in time – lots of discussion and reasoning ensued.  On Wednesday, the children really discussed the topic of Human Rights through the book “We Are All Born Free”.  Each child took a particular “Right” and illustrated this for display.  There were some fabulous contributions from our class.  Hinduism is a focus for RE this term and on Friday, the class was introduced to hockey, with Mr Biggs.

As we are approaching the national assessments, the pupils are now being given tasks from their CGP Homework books to support the learning in class.  These books will contain a “sticky label” on the inside front cover with the pupils’ homework and due dates.  We will then be marking the work in class; addressing misconceptions; securing understanding; and continuing to complete pages in the books.  It is therefore so important that the pupils bring these books into class on the due dates.  Details of the weekly tasks can be found below – please note that each pupil will have different books.  There are three English books – 1) Grammar; 2) Punctuation; 3 Spelling.  There are two maths books – 1) Number, Ratio & Algebra; 2) Geometry, Measures & Statistics.
