Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 6th October 2023
Y6 – Friday 6th October 2023 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6
Looking back:
Another excellent week in Year 6. Our writing this week has been so interesting as the pupils have enjoyed writing about their song choice from family members. We have also been listening to snippets from these songs. Who’d have thought that Andy Williams, Guns & Roses, Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton and Michael Jackson would have featured in our English lessons? In addition, we have been privileged to learn a little more about the life of mums, dads, grandparents, uncles or aunts. The pupils have enjoyed the start to their biographies and we will look forward to sharing this in the coming weeks. Maths has seen us grapple (successfully) with common multiples, common factors, prime numbers and prime factors: topics we had already met, but we have consolidated and extended our knowledge in reasoning questions.
During our afternoons, we have enjoyed showing our knowledge of scientists through the use of ‘double-paged spreads’ – look out for information about Alfred Wallace, Charles Darwin and Mary Anning! On Thursday, we spent some time on designing and colouring mandalas. We have enjoyed playing football with Mrs Murdoch in our PE lessons and of course, we loved our buddy session. We have been outside playing with our buddies and also reading lovely stories to them.
Letters issued Y6:
No specific letter this week

Family discussion questions:
- What are the Prime Factors of 24? Can you show me through a ‘prime factor tree’?
- Tell me what Alfred Russel Wallace is known for.
- What is a mandala? Tell me about this.
Looking forward:
- We are all in busy “exhibition prep mode” next week with our pieces of work being prepared and completed for display.
- On Monday, we are visiting the Crewe Alexandra Football Stadium for our morning at the “Crucial Crew at Crewe” event. The pupils will be chatting with professional bodies such as the British Transport Police, Gist lorries, the Canal and Rivers Authority. These events are aimed at raising awareness in Year 6 about keeping themselves safe when out and about in their communities – particularly as they are gaining increasing independence at this age.
- Please can pupils be in school on time and with their packed lunch – school will be providing lunches where these have been requested. We shall be eating when we return from the visit – approximately 12:30pm
- Year 6 Cake Sale next Friday – 13th October! Yummy!
