Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 6th September 2024

Y6 – Friday 6th September 2024 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

What a great few days the children (and teachers) have enjoyed whilst everyone has settled back into life in school.  Our new Year 6 pupils are finding their feet very quickly and enjoying a range of tasks.  We’ve begun to look at our new studies for the year – maybe have a look at the family quesitons below!  They have also started a few “quizzes” which we will use to see what knowledge the children have retained and where we need to plan for the future.  Friday has seen the pupils enjoy their first Sports Coaching Group lessons and the 7UP sessions began today too.

We have seen 28 happy, smiley faces this week and we are all looking forward to working together during the pupils’ final year at primary school.

If, throughout the year, you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will be very happy to respond.

Best wishes – The Year 6 Team

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • HN – Doing the labels in our English books
  • CT – Maths lessons
  • FB – Looking at Hinduism in RE
  • ZW – Starting our hat topic
  • IG – Using laptops for ICT work
  • MJ – Having the alleyway for Y6
  • ZL – Having chairs in assembly
  • JD – Being in the alleyway

Family discussion questions:

  • Who are the two gentlemen you will be focusing on for your English Exhibition work?
  • Tell me something you learning in your RE lesson about Hinduism.
  • What is the best thing about being in Year 6?

Looking forward:

  • We will be making a detailed start on our Exhibition work which we can’t wait to share with you when the time comes. Details will be coming home about the new Spelling Homework – please keep your eyes peeled for further information.  Homework will begin across the curriculum – please check the tab on the Year 6 page for details.  PE will continue to be each Friday so pupils must come to school in PE kits – it will be indoor PE if the rain arrives.

Homework in Year 6

Mrs. Timmins

  1. Song titles (optional – closes on Friday 11th October)

Our Exhibition title this year is “Heros and Leaders”.  If you can find a song title with the work “Hero” or “Leader” in, please jot down the song title, artist and year of release and this will earn you 5 house points.  (Click on the ‘Homework’ tab for full details.)

  1. Buddy information – Set Friday 6th September – Due Friday 13th September

Very soon, you will be meeting your new buddies.  When you were in Reception, your big buddy will have given you a little booklet about themselves.  Now, it’s your turn to make a booklet.  You should begin to think about, and gather, information that you would like to put into a booklet for your new little friend.  (Click on the ‘Homework’ tab for full details.)
