Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 7th February 2025

Y6 – Friday 7th February 2025 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

If you take a look at our photos this week, you’ll see that it’s been a great week with our pupils learning lots of different things in so many different ways – there was also much “evidence” on the carpet on Wednesday!!

This week, we have been looking at writing to show integrated dialogue into our story extracts based upon Hansel & Gretel.  Maths has seen us getting to grips with the topic of algebra with lots of vocabulary and equation-solving taking place.  During the afternoons, we’ve been learning about Mary Anning and her contribution to science; a “beak buffet” on Wednesday was a super way of learning about adaptions in birds; coding was interesting too whilst we’ve been looking at the anatomy of a hat with Mrs Riddell.  On Friday, we created goal celebrations to the Champions’ League theme and dance moves to Madonna’s “Vogue”.  We’ve also nearly filled up our marble jar (although the adults are sneaking up on us a little too quickly with their jar filling fast).

Thank you if you were able to join us for our SATs information talk – a paper copy of the slides has been sent to families on Friday.  If anyone has any queries, please drop us an email or pop in to see us and we’ll be happy to answer these for you.

Just one more week until our class is half way through their final year with us – hasn’t that gone quickly!!

See you next week – Team Year 6!

Family discussion questions:

  • Solve the equations and find the value of x when x – 10 = 38
  • What on earth is a “beak buffet” and how did you get on? How does adaptation ensure birds may survive?
  • What parts of a hat can you name for me?

Looking forward:

  • We are into our final week of the Spring Term 1st half – this has soon come around. We will continue our learning and complete quite a few topics.  There might also be a marble jar treat in store!!
