Year2 Looking Back and Forth 21st May

Friday 21st May 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

Another busy week at school! We have now finished re-telling the story of The Bear and the Piano and the children have produced some excellent work. They have been careful with sentence structure and spellings. Lots of the children are bringing writing from home, which is great. Some parents have asked if they should help their children correct spellings and grammar and they answer is yes, as it will help them to apply the skills they are learning at school.

In Maths we used our knowledge to answer reasoning questions and also practised arithmetic skills. In science we planted the seeds and are waiting to discover if our germination predictions are true.  Almost all the Painted Lady butterflies have emerged and the children enjoyed observing them in the net, feeding them fruit and hopping that the sunshine returns soon so we can release them.

We have also been active in PE for team games and Zumba and spent lots of time outside. We continued to work on friendship skills and problem solving together with a focus on asking our friends to play.

Homework in Year 2

Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).

Maths:

Division sheet due back on Friday.

Please help your child to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables. We will have a quiz every week. When your child knows the first sheet I will send home a sheet with mixed up times tables. You can use the Percy Parker You Tube videos or chant them. The best way to learn them is to practise for short periods every day, rather than once a week. Please keep the sheet at home so you can practise. Times Table Rockstars passwords were sent home today.

English:

Complete the comprehension questions for next Friday.

Spellings:
