Yr 4 Friday 14th May Looking Back and Forth
Friday 17th May – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back:
This week, we started to create our own twisted happy endings to traditional stories. This writing, we were completing in pairs and I think the children really enjoyed the opportunity to collaborate in their writing. In maths, we assessed our knowledge of fractions and were pleased to see that we had progressed. We have now begun a new unit on decimals. In history, we learnt about the different places names that are Anglo-Saxon. We found lots in our own locality. We also looked at Alfred the Great and looked at why people thought he was so great. We had another super session on the PBuzzes and learnt to follow another piece of music.
Highlights of the Week
- Being with my friends and teachers
- Anglo-Saxon work, learning all about Alfred the Great
- working on fractions in maths
- the excitement of the pool being set up
- playing football on the field
- writing stories with partners
- doing cartwheels in gym
Questions to ask at home:
What does -ley mean in Anglo-Saxon?
What does –ton mean in Anglo-Saxon?
What does –ford mean in Anglo-Saxon?
What does –bury mean in Anglo-Saxon?
Who was Alfred the Great?
Why was he so great?
Looking forward:
The children will need to bring their swimming kits for the first three days. Then, every day if they need further consolidation with their swimming skills.
This week, we will continue our work on the Lost Happy Endings, writing our own twisted endings and then publishing then after editing. Decimals will be the focus again in maths. In particular, focusing on tenths and hundredths. When studying the Anglo-Saxons, we will look the food that they ate and the story of King Alfred and the cakes. We will complete our assessments for electricity and get on and create our quiz boards.
