Yr 4 Friday 21st May - Looking Back and Forth

Friday 21st  May – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, completed our twisted endings.  The children worked very well together.  We also edited our work in pairs, which worked really well.  In maths, we got to grips with decimals.  We are much more confident with tenths now, just working on dividing 10 and 100s by 1 digit numbers.  In Design and Technology we worked on our quizboards.  We learnt about what Anglo-Saxons ate, as well as learning about King Alfred and the cakes.  Ask your child, the moral of that story….  We quite liked it.

We completed our work on electricity in science.

With Mrs Riddell, we completed our spelling tests and got some good overall scores.  We worked on Arithmetic and learnt about Jewish weddings.

Questions to ask at home:

Why did King Alfred burn the oat cakes?

What did the old lady say to him?

How does your quizboard work?

What is a component in electricity?

What is an appliance in electricity?

How does a twisted ending work?

The class highlights of the week

  • Swimming in the pool
  • The inspirational people of the week
  • Reading
  • Publishing my twisted story ending
  • Nessy and TTRockstars
  • Guided reading – King Alfred and the cakes and Jewish weddings
  • Gymnastics with Miss Oakes
  • Creating my quizboard

Looking forward:

The children will need to bring their swimming kits for the last two days.

This week, we will complete the story endings and at last, be able to listen to the whole story of the Lost Happy Endings.  We will continue to work on decimals in maths as well as our quizboards in D&T.  Hopefully, these will be completed this week.  We will complete a set of assessments for maths and English to check how we are progressing.  We will of course have our second session in the pool.  We will learn about how Anglo-Saxons wrote things down as well.

Homework in Year 4

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins
