Yr 4 Friday 5th July - Looking Back and Forth

Friday 5th July 2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week the children wrote a story based on the adventures of Anansi, the African spider god.  This story comes from the west of Africa and the Caribbean.  We discussed why the Caribbean? This linked well to our Tudor work.  In Maths, we explored Perimeter and Area and the children were getting really confident at calculating the two.  We also; research Ancient Egyptian Gods and Goddesses, enjoyed our sports day, created a beautiful phoenix bird with our chromatography paper and has our French Day picnic outside in the sun.

Year 4 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Mufaro writing
  • Playing capture the flag with the Premiere Sports coach
  • Writing my Ananse story
  • The French Picnic
  • Sports Day
  • Egyptian Gods and Goddesses research
  • Friand – French for sausage roll (according to Google translate)

Family discussion questions:

  • What Egyptian god/goddess did you research?
  • Who is Ananse?
  • Can you retell the story of the Pot of Wisdom?
  • What are the rules of capture the flag?
  • Why did the stories of Ananse travel to the Caribbean?

Looking forward:

This week the children will begin a new writing topic – Diaries, reports and letters.

This will be based on the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun by Howard Carter.

In maths the children will be looking at 2d and 3d shapes.  Weather permitting we will be going pond dipping on Wednesday.
