Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth 11th December
Friday 11th December 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back:
This week in our English work, we have worked on creating an explanation for how Tony Ross draws Horrid Henry. After this, we started to write an explanatory text about the water cycle to support our work on ‘states of matter’ in science.
In maths, we focused on conversions; metres to centimetres, millimetres to centimetres and finally metres to kilometres.
In the afternoons; completed our Mallory biographies and had great fun in science melting chocolate and freezing cream! This was part of our work on changing states of matter in science. I think the class enjoyed the experiments, but more importantly, could see the states of matter changing when heated or cooled.
Questions to ask at home:
- How many metres in a kilometre?
- How many centimetres in a metre?
- How many millimetres in a centimetre?
- Do you think Mallory reached the summit of Everest? Why?
- What are the three states of matter?
- How can you change a state of matter?
Highlights of the Week
- Playing games outside with my friends
- Maths -converting measures
- Finishing my George Mallory biography
- Lunch!
- Everything!
Looking forward:
We have the Christmas Panto on Monday – Yay!
Also this week, we will complete our writing about the water cycle and put this into our science books. In addition to this, we will complete our work in science about states of matter.
We will be creating some pop up cards for Christmas as well as using gelpads for printing.
The children have worked hard this term and I hope they will enjoy this final week of our first term together.
Christmas Shop
The children will have the chance to visit the Christmas Shop next week but we are asking for all their money to be in ON MONDAY. We will make a note of how much each child has brought in and will then make sure they get the right amount of gifts when they visit the shop. To make it easier for the children to bring in the correct money every gift is £2.50—maximum 4 gifts per child.
Pupils will need to bring the correct amount of cash in and no change can be given. They will need their own bag to take their gifts home in. The gifts were brought in to school a few days ago and have had to stay untouched until we sell them.
We will be visiting the Christmas Shop on Thursday morning.
Homework in Year 4
Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes
Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins
Soundcheck is a great tool to prepare the children for the MTC (Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check)
Spellings – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday. It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night. The children remember them better learnt over the week.
Maths–For Friday this is a purple sheet. There will be no homework for maths over the Christmas holidays.
English - For Friday – this is a purple sheet. I am asking the children over the festive season to create a poem for Christmas to bring in the first week back.
Could the children please complete their homework in pencil or blue/black pen not felt tip.
Timestables – for Friday we are learning x10 x 3 x6 x9
