Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth 11th September
Hello families,
We had a great start to the year in Year 4. The children impressed me this week with their hard work and enthusiasm. I am sure this weekend they will have been super tired!
We started the week looking at a book called Peter’s Place and creating a kenning (Viking Poem) to describe the storm scene in the book. The children then presented this work ready for display. We have now got this work displayed in the classroom. The children have now officially stamped ownership on the classroom. Ask your child about their wish pebble?
We began looking at place value in maths and recapped on some key concepts from Year 3 as a confidence boost before we start our Year 4 work in earnest.
In the afternoons, we looked at the collage work on Kurt Schwitters, a German artist, who some describe as the’ Inventor of Collage’. The children made wonderful collages with themes like colour, space, textures and even heads! Ask your child what their collage theme was?
We completed our preplanning work for our geography topic on mountains and our science topic on sound.
Next week, we will continue to work on place value in maths, as well as completing beginning of the year assessments. Our new unit of work in English on biographies and we will be looking at some absolutely amazing texts all about rebel girls and boys who dare to be different. I think the class are going to get a real ‘buzz’ from these texts.
This week, I sent an email about a Year 4 Homework Club which starts on Tuesday. Thank you for your emails. There are now ten children on the list. If you would like your child to join, please contact me as soon as possible please.
You should have also received a letter home about the Fluenz. Please could you ensure that the letters are back in school by the 18th September.
On Friday, I also sent out an email with the September Meeting presentation. I am really disappointed as I can’t meet parents this year. If you do have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me either by phone or email.
Kind regards,
Mrs Cowell
