Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth 13th November

Friday 13th November 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week in our English, we continued our work on the mystery book.  We wrote paragraphs to set the scene, using the pictures that we have from the book.    We read a piece of writing about the pictures that we looked at closely.  We have started to really look at authorial intent.

In maths, we worked hard addition and carrying (which is now called exchanging).  The children impressed me with the presentation and accuracy in their work.

In the afternoons; we had a super busy week.  We painted our boxes for our mountain dioramas, explored the perils of climbing Everest.  To be honest, after looking at the dangers of climbing the mountain, I am not sure the class thought it was a good idea at all.  We also has time with the TTRockstars tournament, learning our Christmas songs as well as enjoying a fun quiz for Children In Need.

Questions to ask at home:

  • What did you do in the quiz for Children In Need?
  • What does the word exchange mean in maths?
  • What are some of the dangers of climbing Everest?
  • What is a serrac?
  • What is a simile?
  • What music did you listen to in music with Mrs Riddell?

Looking forward:

This week, we will continue with our new book, but this week we will actually share it.  In maths, we will be looking at subtraction and exchanging.

We will continue to make our mountain dioramas, as well as learning more about George Mallory.  We will have our second timestables test, this time  it is 100 questions in 10 mins!

Homework in Year 4

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Soundcheck is a great tool to prepare the children for the MTC (Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check)
