Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth 17th September

Friday 10th September – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the class have had another super busy week.  We worked on Roman Numerals a lot and I think it is safe to say, we are a lot more confident with them now! We started to explore our new book The Journey, and checked to see if our predictions about the text were correct.  We wrote a diary entry as well as exploring more exciting vocabulary.

With Mrs Cooper, the class looked at the countries of Europe and their capitals.  They each picked a country to explore in more detail.  In French, the children learnt weather phrases.  They also explored musical poetry and electrical circuits in science.  The class also explored family life in the Islam religion.

To top it all off, we had another great Tag Rugby session with Mr Biggs today on the field – the class loved the session.

We have talked to the class this week about ‘building on’ and used the terms ‘working memory’ and ‘long term memory’.  It was a really interesting discussion and the children were intrigued, but could see how it worked.  We used practising phonics/swimming/riding a bike and also Ronaldo as examples!

Questions to ask at home

  • What happens in the story The Journey?
  • What Roman Numerals can you remember?
  • What country in Europe are you studying?
  • Do you know the capital city?

Looking forward:

This week, the children will be continuing their work on the book the Journey and writing poetry using personification.  In maths, the children will be rounding to 10 and 100, as well as working with 1000s.  On Wednesday, the children will have Mrs Riddell for their spelling lesson and arithmetic.  In the afternoons, the children will be exploring the thought provoking book, ‘Dogs don’t do ballet’ as part of their No Outsiders work.  They will continue to work on their European countries as well as making some cool torches.
