Yr 4 Looking back and forth 1st October

Friday 1st October – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

I have had a lovely time with year 4 this week but the class will be delighted to have Mrs Cowell back in the mornings from next Tuesday.  The class have worked really well on a variety of tasks in maths including partitioning numbers and numbers up to 10,000 We have also worked on our times tables – a really important skill.  The children have learnt spellings for Mrs Riddell and are doing well in the weekly tests.

The class have continued their work on the countries of Europe and have used this information to plan some electronic quiz games that we hope will be part of the Exhibition.  We have looked at aspects of e-safety and revised the days of the week and weather phrases in French and also looked at Islamic wedding traditions.  The week culminated with a PE lesson where we practised our netball skills in the glorious autumn sunshine.

Building On

  • In maths, the work we did on 1,000s – we are now going on to larger numbers
  • In geography, our knowledge of the continents and the world
  • In French, days of the week

Questions to ask at home

  • What are the names of the days of the week in French?
  • Which European country are you studying and what have you learnt about it?
  • What are the rules in netball?

Looking forward:

This week, the children will be completing lots of maths: looking at rounding larger numbers and ordering them as well as comparing 4-digit numbers.  There will be more preparation for our own story writing in English.

In the afternoons, the children will be hard at work completing their projects for the exhibition, as well as doing some singing, learning more French words and phrases, using the laptops to present work, looking at Black History, making their electronic games and spending some time with a professional artist.
