Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth - 24th September 2021
Friday 24th September – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4
Looking back:
This week, the class have worked well and getting into the Year 4. We worked on place value in maths, looking at rounding numbers to the nearest 10 and 100, as well as counting in 1000s. We looked at the Journey book and wrote a stunning class poem using personification. It is so brilliant; I think we should use it in the exhibition.
With Mrs Cooper, the class continued their work on the countries of Europe. The children made switches and torches in electricity, as well as looking at Islamic birth rites.
As part of their No Outsiders work, the children looked at the book ‘Dogs Don’t Do Ballet’. This is a very thought provoking book and generated a super discussion in class.
Building On
- In maths, the place value work completed in Year 3
- In English, similes, alliteration and metaphors – the use of figurative language
- In geography, our knowledge of the continents and the world
- In French, songs we learnt in Key stage 1
- In RE, studying the birth rites in other religions – looking at christenings in Year 1
Questions to ask at home
- How do you round to the nearest 10?
- How do you round to the nearest 100?
- What is a simile?
- What is alliteration?
- What is personification?
Looking forward:
This week, the children will be completing lots of maths, all connected to place value of numbers up to 10,000. There will be more preparation for our own story writing.
In the afternoons, the children will be hard at work completing their projects for the exhibition.
