Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth 6th March 2020

Friday 6th March 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

The children began plan and write their own myths this week, as well as enjoying a ‘slipper shuffle’ onto the cushions to listen to a Viking myth or two on World Book Day.

In maths, we looked at division and because of our super speedy timestables, we were able to find other methods to work on division.

In the afternoons; decided on our top ten Anglo Saxon facts, as well as looking at the story of ‘When Alfred the Great’ burnt the cakes, which we made into our very own comic strip. This had a great moral for the class – that wallowing in self pity was okay for a short while, but being resilient and being a man of action was what was needed.

Questions to ask at home:

  • What is division?
  • Tell me what you can remember about the Anglo Saxons?
  • Where did King Alfred escape to when he was chased by the Vikings?
  • Why did King Alfred burn the cakes?
  • What did the lady say to him?
  • Who is Odin?
  • Who is Thor?
  • Who is Fenrir?
  • What happened to Tyr’s hand?
  • What is the place where the Viking gods live?

Highlights of the week:

  • Writing our own Myths
  • Lacrosse
  • TTRockstars
  • Times tables test
  • Having Mrs Sumpter
  • Playing the dice game.

Looking forward:

This week, the children will continue to write their own Viking style myths, involving Arthur or Eleanor Brownstone.  In maths, we will continue to look at informal methods of division.  In our history work, we will begin our topic about the Vikings, building on our work about Anglo Saxons.    We will continue to develop our Viking dance with the premier sports coaches as well as out Lacrosse and Hi 5 skills.  We will also continue our work on Sound in science.

Could you please make sure that your child has their P.E. kit in school on Friday from Lacrosse.  We will be outside (unless it is pouring), warmer jogging trousers, spare socks, a bag to put wet trainers into, and a jumper.  The children also have gym and dance on a Tuesday and will need shorts for this.
