Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 14th January 2022

Friday 14th January – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back: This week, the children have been creating wonderful fronted adverbial sentences as part of work on our new book ‘Leaf’.  They’re absolutely desperate to read it, and that will happen next week.

In maths, we have worked on multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.  In the afternoons, the class worked with Mr Biggs on their netball skills as well as exploring sound and vibration in science.  This proved a very popular lesson.

Building On

  • Maths, the multiplication and division in Year 2 and Year 3.
  • Sound work in science, links to the listening work the children completed in Reception.
  • Fronted adverbials work built on the work from the autumn term.
  • Developing a wider vocabulary builds on all of the children’s everyday experiences and all of the work in school.

Questions to ask at home

  • What does a tuning fork do when you hit it?
  • How is sound made?
  • What is fronted adverbial?
  • What happens to a number when you divide by 10 or 100?
  • What is commutative law?

Highlights of the week for the children

  • The lessons in maths where we divided by 10 and 100.
  • Leaf and looking at the pictures in the book
  • TTRockstars!
  • Tuning forks in water in science!
  • Hanging out with my friends
  • Drums and birdseed with Mrs Cooper (the mind boggles)

Looking forward:

This week, we will get to read the book Leaf as well as explore some of the great vocabulary used in the text.  In maths, we will be investigating factor pairs.  In the afternoons, there will be more fun experiments on sound with Mrs Cooper, music lessons with Mrs Sant.  Spelling and arithmetic work with Mrs Riddell.
