Yr 4 Looking Back and Forth Friday 4th December

Friday 4th December 2020 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week in our English work, we began a new unit of work on instructions and explanations.  We spent some time creating pieces of art work and instructions for someone to replicate it.   We also published our scene setting pieces from the book ‘Whale’.

In maths, we began a new unit on Length and Perimeter.  The rest of the week was spent on looking at changing units; cm to mm, cm to m and km to m.

In the afternoons; we rehearsed for the CD, it was sounding really good and we can’t wait to hear what it sounds like when it is finished.  We completed our unit of work on mountains and created our ‘Top Ten Facts’.

Questions to ask at home:

  • What is the difference between an explanation and an instruction?
  • How many metres are there in a kilometre?
  • How many millimetres are there in a centimetre?
  • How many centimetres are there in a metre?
  • Can you tell me any amazing facts about mountains?

Highlights of the Week

  • The new playground equipment
  • Lunch and playing with my friends
  • Drawing with Tony Ross
  • Dance with Miss Oakes
  • Reading time
  • Singing Dominic the Donkey
  • Timestables test
  • Everything!

Looking forward:

This week, we will begin to explore the water cycle as part of our science work and then write explanations for it.  We will continue our work on length and perimeter in maths.  In the afternoons, we will be completing our work on George Mallory as well as looking at changing states in science.
