Yr 4 Looking Back & Forth 29th March

Friday 22nd March  2019 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

The children completed their writing on ‘The Arrival’ recount.  They worked hard on this and the writing produced was superb.  We puzzled our way through factors in maths.  In science, we started to look at how sound is made.  We looked at how sound travels through water and marvelled at the sperm whale and the fact it can knock you unconscious with the force of it’s clicks!

Year 4 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I am guessing York!

Family discussion questions:

  • How loud is a bomb in decibels?
  • How loud is a sperm whale click in decibels?
  • How do you make sound?
  • What is a larynx?
  • Why was Fountains Abbey closed?  Who was responsible for taking all the treasures?
  • Why did they do it?
  • What is the fastest train at the National Railway museum?
  • What does the fastest train use – steam, superheated steam, diesel, electronic or magnets?
  • What will the trains of the future be powered by?  Why will they be in a tube?
  • Why is the window in the Minster called the ‘Rose Window’?
  • What was the best thing about breakfast?

Looking forward:

The children will complete a recount of their adventures in York.  We will be looking at co-ordinates in maths.  Finally we will be finishing our topic about the Tudors.
