07.10.22 - Year 6 - Looking Back and Forth - Friday 7th October 2022

Y6 – Friday 7th October 2022 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 6

Looking back:

A busy week in Year 6 which has seen us working on lots of projects towards our upcoming Exhibition.  We have worked on our characters inspired by Alan Garner’s “The Weirdstone of Brisingamen” and using our own imaginations has been exciting.  We have continued with our multimedia presentations which this time have been inspired by our chosen scientists.  Pilgrimmage work continued on Thursday and despite the rain, we enjoyed tag rugby on Friday.  Thankfully, the weather was kind to us between 2:30 and 3:00pm to ensure we spent a fun time with our new buddies.

On Friday morning, we visited “Crucial Crew at Crewe” and learned a range of really important skills to keep us safe.  We enjoyed listening to experts from: Gist Lorries; Alcohol Awareness; SPG Electrics; The Dogs Trust; Cheshire Police; and Health and Wellbeing Nurses.  We have popped quite a few photos onto this week’s “Display Work Items” tab – please have a look to see what we enjoyed.

Letters issued Y6:

Friday:  Cake sale flyer; pumpkin leaflet.

Year 6 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Being with my buddy
  • Wearing dizzy goggles
  • Writing my own goblin-like character
  • Visiting Crucial Crew – our first trip
  • PE with Mr Biggs
  • Drawing the characters from The Weirdstone
  • Lunch

Family discussion questions:

  • Can you tell me three facts you learned from Crucial Crew?
  • Describe your character from your English writing lessons.
  • What are the mathematical rules for divisibility when dividing by: 2 4  6    How would you quickly calculate if a number is divisibly by 15 (without doing the calculation).  Which divisibility rules could you apply?

Looking forward:

  • We are looking forward to completing our Exhibition work throughout the week. If your child is in our netball team, then they will require PE kits for Tuesday’s practice.  Please ensure that your child is continuing to read at home and that this is recorded in their reading records.  We cannot stress enough how important reading is for our pupils as it increased their understanding of all subjects, as well as losing themselves in a range of exciting places in their stories.
