Looking Back and Forth 9.2.24

Y2 Friday 9th February 2024– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:  This week we have been learning about the features of recounts and discussing the writer’s hints we will need to use when we write our own recounts.  In maths we have solved division using sharing and grouping. We debated how different people behaved during The Great Fire of London during history.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • I have enjoyed PE because my team won the passing game.
  • I enjoyed writing in English
  • I enjoyed science because we made a mouse fly using a bottle.
  • My highlight has been working with my partner
  • I liked learning about how people tried to fight the fire
  • I liked writing sentences about the Great Fire of London X2
  • I liked doing division and multiplication on maths
  • I liked maths -doing division is hard but fun!
  • I liked discussing how the baker, Lord Mayor, Samuel Pepys and King Charles II behaved during The Great Fire of London.

Family discussion questions:

  • Ask your child to explain how the baker, Lord Mayor, Samuel Pepys and King Charles II behaved during The Great Fire of London. Discuss what they think about their actions.

  • Looking forward:

Next week we will begin planning our own recounts and will perform our class composition of London’s Burning!

PE is on FRIDAYS! Please ensure school PE kit is worn.

Reading books are changed on Mondays. The reading folder is needed in school every day. Thank you.

Reading books should be brought into school every day. Children’s books will be changed weekly.

Please continue to read every night as this underpins so much learning in Year 2. For every consecutive 14 days of reading the children will receive 10 house points and see their face on the ‘Reading Challenge Wall of Fame’. Well done to the 5 children that completed the challenge again this week and one pupil who completed it for the 6th time and received a certificate this week. Please record when you read with your child in their reading diaries so we can track their progress and see who has completed the challenge this term!

Thank you for your continued support,

Mr Warhurst
