Reception Friday 20th September Looking back and forth

Friday 20th September 2019- Looking Back and Forth in Reception

Looking Back

It has been a busy week and I am sure you all have some tired children! It is lovely to see them all playing with the Year 6 children this Friday afternoon and I am hoping to introduce them to their buddies next Friday. Lunches have been a success and most children are clearing their plates. We have started phonics lessons this week and are making sure that the sounds are said correctly. We are singing the Jolly Phonics songs and these are on YouTube if you want to do it with them. (choose the one that says sounds in order). We are also learning the names of the sounds. In maths we have been counting and number recognition. I am continuing with the baseline assessing - I do a few children each day. This entails me taking them to The Sunshine Room, where it is quiet, and it usually takes between 5 and 10 minutes. They all seem to enjoy it and it is a nice time to have a little chat too.

We did PE on Thursday afternoon. It took 40 minutes to change and then we enjoyed 30 minutes of PE working with hoops and scarves. Then another 30 minutes to change back! By the end of the year we hope to have changing down to 5 minutes. If your child cannot dress themselves then please would you encourage them to do so, as we are doing at school? (I know socks are tricky and we are always happy to help them with them and jumpers).

Mrs Raven has been working on a display in the class about the pond dipping the children did last week. You will get a chance to see that at the class social.

Looking forward

I want to send some sounds home next week but I need each child to have a small plastic pot/tub. The lid needs to close firmly and could you please label it? I have already taken some out of the bags but I didn’t get a chance to check all bags today.
