Reception Looking back and forth week ending 4 February 2022

Hello

Another busy and fun week in school! This afternoon we all went over to the juniors to look through the books at the Book Fair. They each chose a few they liked and their buddies wrote the titles on a sheet which are in their school bags. More details of how to buy the books are in the newsletter this week.

We continue our writing based on Little Red and we have put together a story map with pictures and Makaton signs to help them learn the story by heart and support their writing. Ask them if they can show you the signs for grandma, wolf and Little Red? Next week they will rewrite the story following the story map.

In Maths we explored weight and used the balance scales. They all had a go at balancing them with a variety of objects.

On Thursday we learnt about the tongue and then had a taste banquet. We put all the tables in a long line down the classroom and I set it with their own plate and cup. They were great at all trying everything. We started with coffee, then had the lemon, then the crisps and finally a large serving of jelly. Tasting coffee does create the best facial expressions!

The children said they have enjoyed playing with their friends and I have noticed the plastic animals have been quite popular with them building elaborate zoos to house them all. They also love building dens so we have had many different designs this week.

In music I played them "Here comes the Sun" by The Beatles and we played along with hand drums.

On Tuesday I shared a few short videos with them about Chinese New Year and you can watch these again as I got them off BBC bitesize. Mrs Walker told them the Chinese Zodiac story and they heard how they where either born in the year of the rooster or the dog. We also got the opportunity to see some Chinese musical instruments: a bamboo flute, a Banhu and a Hulusi.

On a Friday in phonics we play games from Phonics Play and they asked if I could tell you this so they could play at home. https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/

Have a lovely weekend.
