we 29th September Year 1

Hi All,

This week in English we will be starting a new topic on ‘the river’, this is to tie into our exhibition work. The children will be writing non-fiction texts about animals found near the river. If you have the opportunity to explore non-fiction books with your child this would really support their learning and understanding.

Things to look for could include:

  • The contents page
  • The index
  • Photographs
  • Captions
  • Diagrams with labels
  • How often books ask a question at the top of the page and answer it on the page.

We will also be looking at a book called ‘Only one of you’, the children are going to be thinking of good advice to give to others like ‘smile everyday’, ‘play everyday’ or be kind. They will make these into labels.

In maths, we will be continuing our work on counting. We will counting, adding one more and one less, and using the >< = signs. As well as using the laptops and playing fun counting games.

In the afternoon we will be continuing our work for the exhibition. We will composing pieces on the ocarina for the exhibition and felting with a local artist called Alison Rose.

Highlights of the week

  • Playing outside at lunchtime with the tractor
  • Playing on the astro, on the beebots, in the kitchen and with the lego with my friends.
