Week beginning 9th January Year 1

Hi All,

We hope you had a great Christmas – we all did and can’t wait to get back to school and see you all. It seems like such a long time since it was before Christmas.

Thank you for the lovely presents we felt very spoilt.

In Literacy this week we will starting a new unit on Traditional and Fairy stories. This week we will be looking at Cinderella. In the next couple of weeks we will also look at the story of the 3 Billy Goats Gruff and Snow White.

If you have a chance it would be great if you could share some traditional or fairy stories at home. Look at and chat about the common features – Once upon a time, happily ever after, lessons to learn from them.

In maths we are starting a new topic on addition and subtraction again. This time we will focus more on subtraction. We will look at how to subtract or take away. How subtraction undoes addition and using subtraction in problem solving.

Don’t forget the reading challenge – so far we have had lots of children taking the challenge. Remember it has to be 14 days consecutive reading at home.

Children will be having a Mad Science Assembly on Tuesday so will probably be excited about it – ask them what wonderful things they experienced. There is more to follow on this… we will keep you posted.

Any children wanting to join Mrs Greene’s art club – can you please ensure your forms are in this week.

If you have any queries or questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
