Y1 Friday 29th April 2022– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

In English we have written letters to Hermelin.

In Maths we have been adding equal groups through repeated addition and made arrays to show ‘lots of’.

In Science we have identified and named common garden plants and flowers.

In Geography we have discussed where we live and what we can see in our local area from our house

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Planning a letter to Hermelin.

√ Reading and sorting words with alternative spelling for ‘ai’ and ‘c’.

√ Writing a letter to Hermelin.

√ Adding equal groups together using repeated addition.

√ Thinking about where we live and what we can see from our house.

√ Naming and identifying common garden plants and flowers.

√ Using positional language to direct our partners around the playground.

√ Controlling the movement of a ball in PE.

√ Beginning our Judaism unit and looking at artefacts in RE.

√ Clapping to the beat of a song in Music.

Family discussion questions:

  • What plants have you got in your garden?
  • Draw 4 equal groups of 2. If you drew 2 equal groups of 4, would the total be the same?
  • What is the purpose of a letter?

Looking forward:

In English we will use the book ‘Where the Wild things are’ to inspire our portal narrative writing unit.

In Maths we will be drawing arrays as ‘lots of’ when multiplying and making doubles.

In Science we will dissecting parts of a flower to help us when naming their parts and in Geography we will be making aerial maps of our classroom using Lego.

Reminders:

  • I have put together a Phonics activity booklet- games, phoneme spotters, reading of real and fake words. I thought this would be something fun for the children to enjoy and to reinforce their Phonics learning.

  • Our 14 day Reading Challenge has started again, so please write each time your child reads so they can earn 10 house points for their 14 consecutive reads. I will change books overnight on a Thursday

  • Alongside the spelling and handwriting/Phonics homework, I have sent home Maths homework. This will be marked together so any misconceptions can be address. Please complete this in pencil.

  • PE this half term is Friday- please wear PE kits on this day.

If you have any questions please ask.

Thanks again for your continued support.

Kind regards and take care

Ms Cummins
