Y1 Friday 6th October 2023– Looking Back & Forth

Y1 Friday 6th October 2023– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

What a week in Year 1- brilliant effort and learning by all!

In Maths we have counted on before finding one more of a given number. We have begun to count backwards using number tracks.

In English and Science, we have written facts about mammals, insects and birds- what they eat, look like and where they live.

In Art we have used pastels to create textures and continued to use collage techniques for our exhibition art work and begun decorating our bird houses.

We have begun to publish facts for the exhibition about the seasons, weather and animals.

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Writing facts about what certain animals eat, look like and where they live.

√ Counting on from given number and finding one more.

√ Counting backwards using number tracks.

√ Aiming kicks accurately in football in PE.

√ Publishing work for exhibition.

√ Creating texture using pastels.

√ Combining textures to create collages for exhibition.

√ Learning about Christianity in RE.

√ Singing ‘heads, shoulders, knees and toes’ song in French.

√ Singing in time with a song in Music.

√ Learning about what Black History Month is and about the inspirational life of Mae Jemsion in PHSE.

Family discussion questions:

  • One more than ___ is ____. 9 is one more than ____ .
  • Recall facts about the mammals, birds and insects we have learnt about.
  • Should the words ‘Chester Zoo’ and ‘Mae Jemison’ have a capital letter? Why?

Looking forward:

Next week we will continue to publish our work for exhibition.

In Maths we will be finding one less than a given number. We will be comparing numbers using language of ‘same, fewer, more’ before moving onto the language of ‘more than, less than and equal to’.
