Y1 Friday 8th October 2021– Looking Back & Forth

Looking back:

What a week in Year 1- brilliant effort and learning by all!

In Maths we have compared objects and numbers.

In English we have put actions to a story map to help us learn facts for writing our non-chronological report about Antarctica.

In Art we have mixed paint and used paint brushes of different sizes to create texture. In History we have written facts about Captain Scott’s Terra Nova expedition.

We are so close to earning our first marble jar treat!

Year 1 – Pupils’ Highlights:

√ Putting actions to our Antarctica story map.

√ Writing facts about Antarctica.

√ Comparing objects using language- less than, greater than and equal to.

√ Using <> and = symbols to compare objects.

√ Moving in different ways and staying on our feet in PE.

√ Recalling facts about Captain Scott’s Antarctic expedition.

√ Publishing work for exhibition.

√ Creating texture using pastels.

√ Mixing paint and using different sized brushes for effect.

√ Learning about Christianity in RE.

√ Learning the words to ‘head, shoulders, knees and toes’ song in French.

Family discussion questions:

  • 3 is greater than 4. Is this true or false? Why? What symbol could you use?
  • Recall facts about Captain Scott’s Terra Nova expedition
  • Should the words ‘Captain Scott’ and ‘Antarctica’ have a capital letter? Why?

Looking forward:

Next week we will put actions to a story map to help us to write a non-chronological report about Emperor penguins.

We will be learning a dance linked to Antarctica and publishing work ready for the exhibition- we can’t wait for you to see it!

Reminders:

Book change on Thursday- please bring reading folders in and they will be changed overnight.

Please continue to read every night and record this in reading diaries so I can track progress for our 14 day Reading Challenge. Year 1 are doing so well with this- some children are so close to achieving their first or another reading challenge- this is celebrated on Friday morning.

If you have any questions please ask.

Thank you for your continued support

Ms Cummins
