Y2 Looking back and Forth 3rd December

Friday 3rd December 2021 – Looking Back & Forth in Year 2

Looking back:

We enjoyed working on A River again this week as the children received a letter from a boy in the story. We wrote a reply together. In maths we worked on multiplication as well as keeping all arithmetic skills fluent. Reading is part of almost every lesson we do and it has been great to see how everyone is improving.

In Science we revisited the key vocabulary and showing how we now know more about this topic. In history we investigated Tudor houses and identified their features. We enjoyed looking at pictures of local Tudor houses, including some from a child in our own class. PE has seen us enjoy gymnastics with the sports coaches. The children have also enjoyed geography, music, nativity songs and plenty of outside activity.

Year 2 – Pupils’ Highlights:

  • Nativity singing
  • Showing off our subtraction skills
  • Multiplying socks!!
  • Learning about Northern Ireland
  • Writing to Toby
  • Tudor houses
  • Finding out about our lines in the Nativity
  • Editing our work – being a good “checker”

Family discussion/questions:

  • Ask your child what they know now about Tudor houses
  • What is a jetty on a Tudor house?

Homework in Year 2

Please ensure all homework is completed and do let me know if you have any concerns

Maths: multiplication arrays sheet due on Friday

English: practise reading your words for the Nativity. You do not need to know them off by heart but read with good expression

Spellings: sheet sent home for the quiz on Friday

Please read with your child every day. Many children are decoding their reading books well but find answering the comprehension questions much harder. We are working on this at school but it will really help if you can also ask questions during home question time. Please see our class page for further ideas (files section).
