Y4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 16th February

Friday 16th February – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

This week, the children have looked at informal methods of multiplication.  We like to call the ‘jellyfish method’.  In English, the class have explored the newspaper report from the Whale story and identified the particular features of a newspaper, for example the alliteration and emotive language.

Thank you for a great term Year 4.  You have worked hard and have a well-deserved rest and chill.  Ready for another term of learning and going to Delamere of course!

Questions to ask at home  -

  • What is a headline in a newspaper?
  • Explain to me about ‘a fishy tale!’
  • What is writing in third person?
  • What is writing in first person?
  • How do you multiply using the ‘jellyfish method’?
  • What is happy breathing?

Children’s highlights of the week

  • P.E.
  • Dyeing wool using Anglo-Saxon dyes
  • Happy breathing
  • Jellyfish maths
  • Quiz boards and showing them to Mrs Carew
  • Feather breathing

Looking forward:

This week is going to be all about Alfred the Great.  The children are going to learn about this famous king and design a throne for him (fit for a king!).

The class will also study the book called ‘The Flower’ as part of our No Outsiders work.

Homework in Year 4
