Y4 Looking Back and Forth - Friday 22nd April

Friday 22nd April – Looking Back & Forth in Year 4

Looking back:

It was lovely to see the children back to school after the Easter holiday.  Lots of them had news that they were keen to share.  Rosettes have been achieved and new pack buddies have joined families or are pending.  There was lots of exciting news.  We finally published the beginnings of the Viking stories, and completed the fractions topic too.   Mr Biggs designed a rounders circuit training session for us and this was enjoyed immensely by the children.

Building On

  • Fractions work from the previous term and Year 3.
  • Publishing skills that we have been developing all year- consistent and joined handwriting

Questions to ask at home

  • What skills did you practise with Mr Biggs
  • How do you calculate 1/3 or 1/3 or ¼ or 1/7 of a number?
  • What did you learn with Mrs Riddell in arithmetic?

Highlights of the week for the children

  • Ttrockstars
  • Publishing our stories
  • Learning about inspiration people with dyslexia
  • Rounders with my friends
  • Going to the field at lunch time and playing with my friends.

Looking forward:

This week,  the children will begin a new topic on mountains in geography with Mrs Cooper.  We will begin our new story text in English and begin decimals in mathematics.

In R.E. the children will be learning about Yom Kippur and exploring classification of animals in ‘Living Things’ in science.

Homework in Year 4

Reading – daily at least 15 mins – remember to take the Accelerated Reader Quizzes

Rockstars – as much as possible 10 mins daily is ideal – at least once a week for 20 mins

Spellings  – Mrs Riddell – Please learn them for the test on Wednesday.  It is better to look at them for 5 minutes each day than try to learn them all in one night.  The children remember them better learnt over the week.

English – ‘To Asgard’ - poem to learn ‘off-by-heart’ and to answer the questions on the sheet
